DEFEND

UKFin+ funded project designing safer, more inclusive digital banking technologies for older adults.

DEFEND: Designing Age-Friendly Digital Banking Technologies explores how digital banking technologies can better support older adults, especially around trust, privacy, fraud awareness, usability, and confidence in online financial services.

The first phase was funded by UKFin+ as a pilot project. It used participatory workshops and co-design activities with older adults and community partners to understand lived experiences of digital banking, identify barriers, and develop design insights for safer and more inclusive financial technologies.

The second phase, DEFEND Impact, builds on this earlier research through the UKFin+ Impact funding stream. The aim is to translate prior findings and prototypes into real-world settings, including practical age-friendly security tools, learning resources, and community-based deployment.
